Safety

Is the air quality safe for my child to play soccer?

UCYSL/UC Premier follows the U.S. Soccer Air Quality Index Guidelines to determine unsafe training and playing conditions based on EPA national standards at www.airnow.gov.

In general, Air Quality Index (AQI) readings <100 are safe for training and playing conditions.

Please reference the Air Quality Index (AQI) for Particulate Matter – Fact Sheet and Common Questions for detailed information.

Should my child play in extreme heat?

UCYSL/UC Premier follows the U.S. Soccer Heat Guidelines to determine conditions for play. For our region, alert levels are as follows:

  • Green (<76.1°F): Normal Activities
  • Yellow (76.3°F – 81.0°F): Increased breaks (3 separate 4 min breaks each hour or 12 min break every 40 min of training)
  • Orange (81.1°F – 84.1°F): Max of 2 hrs  training w/4×4 min breaks each hour OR 10 min break every 30 mins of training.
  • Red (84.2°F – 84.1°F): Max 1 hr training w/4×4 min breaks within the hour.
  • Black (>86.2°F): No outdoor training, recommended that training or match play be canceled or delayed until cooler temperatures.
Should my child play in extreme cold?

Although not as common in our region, UCYSL/UC Premier follows the U.S. Soccer Cold Weather Guidelines to determine conditions for play.

Should the Wind Chill Temperature (WCT) Index fall below 30, there is an increased potential for cold injury.

Visit the Wind Chill Calculator for specific information.
